Panel para ahli independen PBB issuing a strong warning on Monday (Monday) expressed their serious concern over the implementation of the Trump administration's mass deportation policy. According to them, the forced removal of thousands of individuals to countries where they have no family ties, no cultural connection, and no legal standing is creating conditions that systematically violate international human rights law.

“The policy of deporting thousands of people to countries with which they have no links is increasing risks of torture and ill-treatment and enforced disappearance,” stated the panel of independent UN experts in a statement released on Monday.

“Deportations to countries of origin with which the person has no links can never be justified merely by the fact that someone is an irregular migrant. Governments are obliged to conduct an individual assessment of each case, to take into account family ties, and to observe the principle of non-refoulement,” the experts added.

Investigasi J Journalist Consortium

The warning came after investigative reporting published last week by an international consortium of journalists, which included reporters from FRANCE 24. The investigation documented in detail the scale of the deportation operations carried out by the US authorities.

  • More than 25,000 third-country nationals were deported by the end of August, according to the consortium's findings.
  • Several of those expelled were sent to countries where they had no relatives, no residence history, and no prior connection whatsoever.
  • Human rights defenders noted patterns of detention without proper legal basis and inadequate access to legal counsel.
  • Cases of enforced disappearance were reported when individuals were transferred through multiple undisclosed detention facilities.

Reactions and Calls for Accountability

Human rights organisations and migrant rights defenders on Monday urged the international community to establish an independent and impartial monitoring mechanism. They say that without external oversight, there is a serious risk that abuses will remain hidden behind the administrative opacity of immigration procedures.

“Every individual has the right to challenge the legality of his or her deportation before an independent court, and to have that decision reviewed by a higher authority,” stressed one of the experts. “These guarantees are not optional. They are cornerstones of a fair migration system.”

Historical and Political Context

The report comes amid growing criticism of the administration's immigration policy, which had already begun to reshape the detention landscape and the number of expulsions. Rights groups say the current pace of deportations is far above historical averages and that the procedures adopted do not consistently respect family unity, the best interests of the child, or the prohibition on refoulement.

For now, the UN experts have requested information from Washington and have said they are ready to examine individual cases presented to them. The administration has not yet responded formally to the allegations. Observers in Geneva say the dispute will likely continue at the UN Human Rights Council in the coming weeks.
